Grateful for My Training

Posted: November 29, 2012 in Uncategorized

As you may have read, last month I received the Outstanding Service Award at Baptist Bible College. As a part of the weekend celebration, they asked me to record a video and answer some questions about my time at BBC. I wrote out the answers, and my long-time friend Matt Frey helped me out in communicating on the video that they played at the chapel service on October 12, 2012.

I share this here so you can also know how much my time at Baptist Bible College formed my life:

II Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

I Timothy 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

    Patrick!

It has been a while since I posted & just wanted to take the time once again to say thanks for being you & for the role you have played in my life. I hope you feel that you have had a successful ministry, because I can attest to it!

    Pat,

Knowing both you and Matt, I do need to say that your silent expressions communicated more than the words you wrote, and Matt read. I am coming up on 30 years of good friendships from my time at BBC, and it’s so good to see you and Matt together in the video. Good friends babeee – that’s what it’s all about!!

    I love you guys!

Patrick, I just wanted to let you know that as I watched your video interview I could feel the joy and see the words in your eyes. Just as they came off Matt’s lips. Your heart surges through my veins and through each individual that you have ministered to, through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Seeds that you have planted may not blossom for years, but there are seeds that are on their way to cedars because of the Gospel you have preached. Brother, I see VOLUMES in your smile! Just as I did in my Mom’s. Your eyes sparkle and beam. I look forward to seeing you again soon just to catch a glimpse of the the peace and joy you own. Oh that we all would take hold of the promises…

I couldn’t agree more, Patrick! Though your friend Matt beautifully shared your words, your eyes and smile speak such tremendous joy and gratitude. Thank you for continuing to humbly show us all how God can work mightily through a surrendered soul. What a gift to know you, your family and your story! Prayers always.

  6. As your close college friend, I know first hand what some of those rough edges were bud – I guess we know them together. Isn’t it great God continues to mold us and never gives up on us. How cool and wonderful is that?! Thanks for sharing that and Matt, good job!

  7. Patrick (and Dena) – When I listen to your interview, I can’t help but feel the same way about your youth ministry. I learned so much from your faithful ministry and I am so grateful for my time under your teaching. As you said, you taught me “how” to think, and I am forever “grateful for my training” under you!

Great video Patrick. It all comes from your heart …….. and that is no surprise. Bless you my friend.

You are such an encouragement to me! One day last week, I was complaining that my arthritic fingers hurt (it was really bad! 🙂 ). My husband, who was in the other room, didn’t hear me and asked me to repeat myself. The LORD brought you to mind and I promptly shut up. You don’t complain; how can I? I’ve thought of you often since coming across your blogs and I pray for you and your family when God brings you to mind. God bless, from Bowie, MD.

Several years ago you preached a sermon called “Live a Life of Thanksgiving!” I know because we have had copies of that yellow note you handed out to the congregation on our refrigerator and on our nightstand ever since. What a testimony you are of this grateful heart! You practice what you preach! Just in case you don’t remember what you wrote, these are the points you made that day: (1) Realize that everything is God’s Ps. 24:1 (2) Care for those in need Prov. 19:17 (3) Fiercely avoid complaining Phil. 2:14 (4) Thank God for His generousity I Tim. 6:6 (5) Choose to live joyfully I Thess. 5:16-18 We are so thankful to the Lord for you and your family. We are thankful for every day that the Lord gives you breath. You still faithfully preach to us through these blogs, and we are so grateful. Your honesty and the Scripture you share are so refreshing. You have no idea…Even our 10 year old asked if she could personally read all the blogs, instead of us giving a summary before we pray for you and your family. She went through and read blog after blog in your archives. Thank you!! Press on with joy, Pilgrim!

I don’t know exactly what you are going through today, or what new obstacles you may be facing, but I wanted you to know that God placed you specifically on my heart this morning during my quiet time with Him and you were in my prayers. I love you, Pat.
